Procrastinators are being given a gift (of sorts): Google is postponing its deadline for the phaseout of third-party cookies in Chrome by a year, until the second half of 2024.
There was no mention of fingerprinting (or any allusions to a forthcoming crackdown on the practice) during the kickoff keynote at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, as many expected – but that doesn’t mean enforcement isn’t coming at some point soon … ish.
The IAB Tech Lab announced its Global Privacy Platform (GPP), a framework to standardize the sharing of consent signals so companies can more easily comply with global privacy regulations. “It’s a protocol for streamlining and managing cross-jurisdictional privacy compliance,” said IAB Tech Lab CEO Anthony Katsur – which is why the platform will be ready to incorporate new consent strings within the framework as they emerge.
